a. First article inspection (see 4.2).

4.2 First article inspection. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), first article inspection
shall be performed on preproduction or initial production samples as specified when a first article
sample is required (see 3.1). This inspection shall include the examinations of 4.3.2
(see table VII) and the tests of 4.2.1, 4.2.2, and 4.6.4 through 4.6.5.9 (see table VIII).
4.2.1 Preproduction inspection. When specified (see 6.2), one preproduction vehicle shall
be inspected for conformance to all requirements contained in this specification. The inspection
shall be performed at a location approved by the Government.
4.2.2 Initial production inspection. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), initial production
vehicles shall be subjected to a special process inspection, conducted by the Government
representatives during fabrication of the first production vehicle, to determine conformance of
materials and workmanship with drawing and specification requirements. After completion of the
first vehicle inspection, a second vehicle selected from the first months production, or one of the
first 10 vehicles produced, shall be subjected by the Government to examinations and tests
specified in table VII and table VIII. Subsequent to examinations and tests, the selected vehicle
shall be subjected by the Government to the 250 hour test specified in table V at a site approved
by the Government, which will require a maximum of 60 days.

4.3 Conformance inspection (CI). Conformance inspection shall include the examinations
of 4.3.2 and the tests of 4.3.3 (see 6.2).
