MIL-DTL-46821D(AT)
4.6.5.2 Hydraulic pressure.
4.6.5.2.1 Start-up hydraulic pressure. To determine conformance to 3.4.2.1, the
hydraulic pressure gage shall be checked with the starter switch in engine starting position and
with the engine turning over.
4.6.5.2.2 Operating hydraulic pressure. To determine conformance to 3.4.2.2, the
hydraulic pump, serviced with hydraulic fluid conforming to MIL-H-6083, shall be operated for
not less than 15 minutes and checked for operating pressures using the loader hydraulic pressure
gage.
4.6.5.2.3 Proof pressure. To determine conformance to 3.4.2.3, the hydraulic pump shall
be operated for not less than 15 minutes and checked for relief and proof pressures using an
external pressure source and gages. Burst pressure shall not be applied.
4.6.5.3 Loader mobility.
4.6.5.3.1 Power package and power train. To determine conformance to 3.4.3.1 and
3.4.3.2, the power package shall function through all gear and speed ranges without loss of
lubricants or damage that may cause failure of the loader-transporter. The power train and
associated controls shall operate without bindings of linkages, loss of lubricants, grabbing and
chattering, or slippage when controls are applied to control, stop, and hold the vehicle.
4.6.5.3.2 Speed. To determine conformance to 3.4.3.3, the loader, with the gear selector
in drive (D) position, shall start out with the transmission in low range, then shift to transmission
intermediate range, then shift to transmission high range, after which a maximum speed shall be
achieved and maintained for 15 minutes. The gear selector shall then be set to hilly (H) position,
after which a maximum speed shall be achieved and maintained for 15 minutes.
4.6.5.3.3 Creeping. To determine conformance to 3.4.3.4, the gear selector shall be set
to drive (D) position and the loader shall be operated at a speed not greater than 6 in. (15 cm) per
second. The brakes may be utilized as required. The loader shall be checked for smoothness of
movement during operation.
4.6.5.3.4 Acceleration. To determine conformance to 3.4.3.5, the loader shall be
accelerated, from a standing start with the engine idle, at the most rapid speed possible and the
rate of speed shall be measured.
4.6.5.3.5 Turning. To determine conformance to 3.4.3.6, the loader shall be operated in a
forward or reverse direction, turned to the right and to the left making complete 360 degree turns.
Upon completion of the turns, the diameter of the circle shall be measured.
